Cold War star Tomasz Kot is set to play Nikola Tesla in the upcoming biopic Nikola, according to Deadline. The film will reportedly tell the story of Tesla’s last major breakthrough and his “personal journey to achieve his scientific ambitions while risking financial security and battling his inner demons.”
Nikola is based on a screenplay by Arnand Tucker (Leap Year, Girl With a Pearl Earring). It will be produced by Daria Jovicic for Latitude Media. Executive producing are Peter Touche, Andrea Scarso and Ximo Paris. Seven Stories will co-produce.
Cold War was a hit this past Oscar season. The film was directed by Pawel Pawlikowski (My Summer of Love, Last Resort). The film is written by Pawlikowski and Piotr Borkowski (Fear of Falling, Three for the Taking). It stars Joanna Kulig (O mnie sie nie martw, The Crime) and Tomasz Kot (Bikini Blue, The Photographer). Cold War earned Pawlikowski the Best Director award at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
Tucker spoke about Tesla’s contributions to science, saying, “Nikola Tesla was one of the most influential and important minds at the dawn of 20th century, and in many ways created our modern world, with its electric cars, instant connectivity through the internet, and global communication. He was also a deeply complex and extraordinary human being. Tomasz is an exquisite actor, and when I saw his extraordinary performance in Cold War there was no doubt in my mind as to who should play Tesla.”
