The Way of Water Passes Titanic to Become Third Biggest Ever

Avatar: The Way of Water, nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, is now the third highest-grossing film of all time worldwide. Disney’s 20th Century Studios has released a new video to celebrate the achievement which you can watch below.

Avatar: The Way of Water ($2,243.2 million global to date) passed Titanic ($2,242.8 million global to date) to become the third highest-grossing film of all time globally this weekend.

Avatar: The Way of Water passed Jurassic World to become the ninth highest-grossing film of all-time domestically. After its tenth weekend in theaters, Avatar: The Way of Water has grossed an estimated $657 million domestically and $1,586 million internationally).

James Cameron has three of the top four highest grossing global movies of all time – Avatar (#1), Avatar: The Way of Water (#3) and Titanic (#4).

The Avatar sequel is the highest-grossing film of all-time in France, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Rep, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey, UAE, Cambodia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Colombia and Puerto Rico.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the Lightstorm Entertainment Production stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet.

The film features a screenplay by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. The story is by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver & Josh Friedman & Shane Salerno.

David Valdes and Richard Baneham serve as the film’s executive producers.

The third installment of the Avatar franchise, Avatar: The Seed Bearer (Working Title), will be released by 20th Century Studios on December 20, 2024.

Then Avatar: The Tulkun Rider (Working Title) and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa (Working Title) are coming to theaters on December 18, 2026 and December 22, 2028, respectively.
