Netflix has revealed the new trailer for The Trial of the Chicago 7, the Aaron Sorkin film opening in select theaters in September and coming to the streaming service on October 16. You can view The Trial of the Chicago 7 trailer using the player below.

Academy Award and Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin (Molly’s Game, The Social Network, The West Wing, Steve Jobs) directed and wrote the dramatic thriller, which is produced by Marc Platt, Stuart Besser, Matt Jackson and Tyler Thompson.

The executive producers of the film are Laurie MacDonald, Walter Parkes, Marc Butan, Anthony Katagas, James Rodenhouse, and Nia Vazirani.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 centers on what was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention but turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest — including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale — were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

The cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, and Jeremy Strong.

Also starring are Noah Robbins, Danny Flahery, Ben Skenkman, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Caitlin Fitzgerald, Alice Kremelberg, John Doman, J.C. MacKenzie, Damien Young, Wayne Duvall, and C.J. Wilson.

Acclaimed screenwriter, director, producer, and playwright Aaron Sorkin’s works include Emmy Award-winning hits The West Wing (27 Emmy Awards) and The Newsroom.

He won the Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network, and won the Golden Globe for Best Adapted Screenplay for Steve Jobs. He made his feature directorial debut in 2017 with Molly’s Game, which he also wrote.

“I’m thrilled to be making a movie about one of one of the craziest, funniest, most intense, most tragic and most triumphant trials in American history. C-7 may take place in the late ’60’s, but there’s no better time to tell this story than today,” said Sorkin previously.
