It’s an understatement to say that Netflix documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness has been a hit. The series is pretty much a phenomenon at this point and has been keeping people entertained while they’ve had to stay at home along with things like Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Netflix is very aware of this fact (with the show bringing in over 34 million viewers its first 10 days) and is bringing a new after show to the streaming service on Sunday, April 12th called The Tiger King and I. The episode is hosted by Joel McHale and features brand-new interviews with John Reinke, Joshua Dial, John Finlay, Saff, Erik Cowie, Rick Kirkman, and Jeff and Lauren Lowe. Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness was officially described by Netflix as follows:
“Among the eccentrics and cult personalities in the stranger-than-fiction world of big cat owners, few stand out more than Joe Exotic, a mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country western singer who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo.
“Charismatic but misguided, Joe and an unbelievable cast of characters including drug kingpins, conmen, and cult leaders all share a passion for big cats, and the status and attention their dangerous menageries garner.
“But things take a dark turn when Carole Baskin, an animal activist and owner of a big cat sanctuary, threatens to put them out of business, stoking a rivalry that eventually leads to Joe’s arrest for a murder-for-hire plot, and reveals a twisted tale where the only thing more dangerous than a big cat is its owner.”
In case you still need more Tiger King in your life, others are getting in on the fun as well. TMZ has announced a special titled TMZ Investigates: Tiger King – What Really Went Down?, which premieres on Monday, April 13th at 9/8 on FOX.
In the special, TMZ investigates the bizarre true-crime story everyone is talking about, with exclusive interviews and never-before-seen footage. This one-hour special will delve into what really went down, exploring outstanding questions about whether or not Joe Exotic is guilty, an inside look into Carole Baskin’s husband’s disappearance, and the current status of the new investigation.
But that’s not all! Investigation Discovery has also given the green light to Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic, which delves into the biggest mystery in true crime today, helmed by the biggest character in the world: Joe Exotic, himself. ID describes the project as follows:
“Love her or hate her, Carole is now in the center ring of the big cat circus. Is she a selfless crusader and protector of animals, who found unimaginable strength despite the mysterious disappearance of her husband? Or are we witnessing Carole Baskin’s master plan finally take effect?
“Despite her claims of innocence, did she orchestrate the disappearance of Don Lewis to seize control of his fortune, consolidate power and lay waste to her foes? No one seems to be talking – except for one man – and that man is the center of ID’s upcoming investigative series.
“This is the investigation you didn’t get to see, revealing the secrets only Joe knows, the exclusive footage that has never been shown and the search to answer the one question every person in America is asking themselves right now: although she’s denied it, is Carole Baskin responsible for the disappearance of her husband, Don Lewis?
“But neither the mystery nor the investigation stops there. What skeletons is Joe still hiding within his untold past? Is his conviction truly justified? Who is Jeff Lowe and what does the FBI really know? What secrets lie hidden within Doc Antle’s walls?”
Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic is being produced by Conveyor Media with Theresa McKeown & Colin Whelan as Executive Producers and Rebecca Sirmons as Co-Executive Producer. No air date has been announced.
