20th Century Fox is reportedly developing a The Sandlot prequel with David Mickey Evans, the original’s writer and director, attached to co-write the script with Austin Reynolds. According to Deadline, the film would center on the legend of the beast (a big English Mastiff).
The Sandlot is a coming-of-age story about a group of young boys growing up in California in 1962. A new, shy boy (Thomas Guiry) moves into the neighborhood, where he is initially rejected by the local boys because he doesn’t know how to play baseball. Soon, he learns the sport and joins the group of boys who play ball in a local sandlot, and with his new friends, he has a variety of adventures.
The movie also stars Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, Victor DiMattia, Marty York, Shane Obedzinski, Grant Gelt, Brandon Quintin Adams, and James Earl Jones.
The Sandlot received two direct-to-video sequels. James Earl Jones was the only returning cast member in 2005’s The Sandlot 2, while Luke Perry and Chauncey Leopardi appeared in 2007’s The Sandlot: Heading Home.
