The Minions Are Back in The Rise of Gru Trailer

-

Following the Super Bowl spotUniversal Pictures has now also released the first Minions: The Rise of Gru trailer, which you can watch using the player below. The second Minions film opens in theaters on July 3, 2020.

This summer, from the biggest animated franchise in history and global cultural phenomenon, comes the untold story of one 12-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain, in Minions: The Rise of Gru. Steve Carell will return as the voice of Gru.

Teeming with Illumination’s signature subversive humor, pop-culture sophistication, full-hearted emotion, bold music sensibility, and over-the-top action, Minions: The Rise of Gru is steered by the franchise’s original creators.

The film is produced by visionary Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborators Janet Healy and Chris Renaud and is directed by returning franchise filmmaker Kyle Balda (Despicable Me 3, Minions). The co-directors are Brad Ableson (The Simpsons) and Jonathan del Val (The Secret Life of Pets films).

Let us know what you think about the Minions: The Rise of Gru trailer in the comments below!

The first film, which is a spin-off prequel to the Despicable Me franchise, earned an impressive $1.159 billion at the worldwide box office in 2015.

In the first film (buy at Amazon), Minions have served (and accidentally eliminated) history’s most despicable villains. After their latest explosive mistake leaves them without an evil leader, the Minions fall into a deep depression. With the tribe on the brink of collapse, three unlikely heroes—Kevin, Stuart, and Bob—embark on a journey to find a new big boss.

When their quest leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock), our three heroes must face their biggest challenge yet: saving all of Minionkind… from annihilation.

Before Minions opened, there had already been three Despicable Me movies featuring Steve Carell’s Gru (buy all three at Amazon). The first movie opened in 2010 and grossed $543.1 million worldwide. The sequel debuted in 2013 and earned $970.8 million globally. And the third movie came to theaters in 2017 and brought in $1.035 billion.
