Netflix has released the official The Lost Daughter trailer and key art, which preview the feature directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated actor Maggie Gyllenhaal. You can watch The Lost Daughter trailer using the player below and you’ll find the new poster underneath.
Gyllenhaal adapted the script based on the 2006 novel of the same name from best-selling author Elena Ferrante.
The film stars Academy Award and Emmy Award winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown), Jessie Buckley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), Dakota Johnson (A Bigger Splash, The High Note), Peter Sarsgaard (Jackie), Paul Mescal (Normal People), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Invisible Man), Ed Harris (Westworld), and Dagmara Domińczyk (Succession).
The producers include Maggie Gyllenhaal; Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren for Pie Films; Charles Dorfman for Samuel Marshall Films; and Endeavor Content.

The deal furthers Netflix’s relationship with Gyllenhaal, following the 2018 release of The Kindergarten Teacher, in which she starred and earned rave reviews from critics.

Ferrante’s book is officially described as follows: “Leda is a middle-aged divorcée devoted to her work as an English teacher and to her two children. When her daughters leave home to be with their father in Canada, Leda anticipates a period of loneliness and longing.
“Instead, slightly embarrassed by the sensation, she feels liberated, as if her life has become lighter, easier.
