At today’s DC FanDome, The Flash movie filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, star Ezra Miller and screenwriter Christina Hodson gave fans a speedy rundown.
Revealed during the panel were two pieces of concept art showing the new Flash suit designed by Batman in the movie! Which Batman will it be though?
It was announced this week that Ben Affleck’s Batman will return for The Flash movie. We learned back in June that Michael Keaton would be back as Batman as well.
Ben Affleck’s Batman has previously appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League, and will be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League as well. Michael Keaton previously played Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns.
Andy Muschietti (IT films) will direct The Flash movie, to be produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco. Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson is writing the script.
Ezra Miller, who played Barry Allen/The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League (and upcoming Zack Snyder’s Justice League), remains attached to lead the cast. The film is scheduled to be released on June 3, 2022.
The movie will feature fast-moving hyper-hero Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) breaking the bonds of physics to crash into various parallel dimensions, where he’ll encounter slightly different versions of DC’s classic heroes.”
“His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong which is his masculinity — because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline — but he’s also very vulnerable,” Muschietti told Vanity Fair. “He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.”
Muschietti added: “He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before.
“It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”
While Ben Affleck’s Batman will probably show up in more of a cameo, Michael Keaton’s Batman is set to be more of a substantial part of the movie.
Muschietti says Affleck is the starting point. “He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure. There’s a familiarity there.”
“This movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we’ve seen before are valid,” Muschietti told the site.
“It’s inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that you’ve seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse.”
The Matt Reeves-directed The Batman is also in the works and will star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. That project is considered to be separate from the universe that The Flash movie will be in and also includes the Aquaman and Wonder Woman movies.
