Netflix has released the first photo of Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming third season of The Crown, which is in production now. Colman will play the older version of Queen Elizabeth II in seasons three and four, following Claire Foy’s portrayal in seasons one and two.
The Crown tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world — Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century. Two houses, two courts, one Crown.
Colman’s credits include BBC series Broadchurch and AMC’s The Night Managar, while she’s appeared on the big screen in Hot Fuzz and The Lobster. She next stars in Fox Searchlight’s The Favourite.
The Crown Season 3 is expected to premiere in 2019. Also starring in the third season are Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, and Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Margaret’s husband.
The second season of The Crown last week received 13 Emmy Award nominations, including one for Best Drama.
