The Batman Filming May Start in November 2019

Could we see a new Batman movie in 2020 or 2021?

The Batman Filming May Start in November 2019

While Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apespreviously said that The Batman filming was aiming for a spring or early summer 2019 start, it looks like that’s been pushed back a bit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit, “the script is basically in, although Reeves will continue tweaking it and working on it. And I’m hearing the studio wants to start shooting in November.”

That means we should be hearing about casting later this year and the movie could be coming to theaters in 2020 or 2021, however Warner Bros. Pictures has not set an official release date.

It is not expected that Ben Affleck, who was originally going to direct the film, will star. Affleck has played the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, briefly in Suicide Squad, and in Justice League. “There are ways in which all of this connects to DC, to the DC universe as well. We’re one piece of many pieces so I don’t want to comment on that except to say that I’m focused very specifically on this aspect of the DC world,” Reeves said previously.

It is also not expected to be an adaptation of Batman: Year One. “We’re not doing any particular [comic],” Reeves said. “Year One is one of the many comic books that I love. We are definitely not doing Year One. It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him. Obviously we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman.”

He added: “I’ve talked about making it a very point of view noir-driven definitive Batman story in which he is investigating a particular case and that takes us out into the world of Gotham.”
