New The Batman, Dune, The Flash, Matrix, Monster Hunter and More Release Dates

-

Warner Bros. Pictures and Sony Pictures has made numerous updates to their release schedules today. On the move are The Batman, Black Adam, Dune, The Flash, the next Matrix movie, Minecraft, Monster Hunter, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and more.

Below, we’ve listed the movies by their new release dates and you can read more about each title. Warner Bros. has also set two new event films for June 3, 2022 and August 5, 2022, but there is no additional information about those projects yet.

The Kid Detective

The Kid Detective (Oct. 16, 2020)

Written and directed by Evan Morgan, Sony’s The Kid Detective stars Adam Brody and features supporting performances from Sophie Nélisse, Tzi Ma, and Sarah Sutherland. The film is produced by William Woods of Woods Entertainment and Jonathan Bronfman of JoBro Productions. Morgan is best known as the co-writer, producer and editor of the breakout indie film The Dirties, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance.

The Kid Detective further demonstrates his darkly humorous sensibility, and showcases a career turning performance from Adam Brody as a once celebrated child detective, now in his early thirties, who continues to solve the same trivial mysteries between hangovers and bouts of self-pity. That’s until a naïve client (Sophie Nélisse) brings him his first ‘adult’ case – to find out who brutally murdered her boyfriend.

Monster Hunter (Dec. 30, 2020)

Sony Pictures has moved up writer and director Paul W.S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter from April 23, 2021 to December 30, 2020. The film stars Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung and Ron Perlman.

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower.

In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.

The film is based on the global video game series phenomenon Monster Hunter.

Dune (Oct. 1, 2021)

Warner Bros. Pictures is pushing back the Dune movie from December 18, 2020 to October 1, 2021. The big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller is directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049).

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.

As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence — a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential — only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling, with Jason Momoa, and Oscar winner Javier Bardem.

Untitled Matrix (Dec. 22, 2021)

Warner Bros. has moved the next Matrix movie up from April 1, 2022 to December 22, 2021. The anticipated sequel stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick, Max Riemelt, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Andrew Caldwell and Neil Patrick Harris.

Lana Wachowski — the co-creator of the record-breaking and genre-defining world of The Matrix — writes, directs and produces the all-new film, returning audiences to the reality-bending universe.

Escape Room (TBA 2021)

Previously scheduled for a December 30, 2020 release, Sony Pictures has moved back Escape Room 2 to an unset date in 2021. The film is the sequel to the $155 million box office hit psychological thriller that terrified audiences around the world.

Directed by Adam Robitel, Escape Room 2 features a screenplay by Will Honley and Maria Melnik & Daniel Tuch. The film stars Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Isabelle Fuhrman, Carlito Olivero, Thomas Cocquerel, and James Frain.

The Batman (March 4, 2022)

Fans of the Caped Crusader will have to wait longer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, as the highly-anticipated movie has been moved back from October 1, 2021 to March 4, 2022. Robert Pattinson stars as Gotham City’s vigilante detective, Batman, and billionaire Bruce Wayne.

Starring alongside Pattinson as Gotham’s famous and infamous cast of characters are Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis as Alfred; and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot.

The Flash (Nov. 4, 2022)

Directed by Andy Muschietti (IT films), The Flash is running from June 3, 2022 to November 4, 2022. Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson is writing the script.

Ezra Miller, who played Barry Allen/The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League (and upcoming Zack Snyder’s Justice League), remains attached to lead the cast.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (June 2, 2023)

Warner Bros. Pictures has moved back sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods from November 4, 2022 to June 2, 2023.

David F. Sandberg is returning to the director’s chair and will be joined by cast members Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Meagan Good, Jack Dylan Grazer, Faithe Herman, and Adam Brody.

Black Adam and Minecraft (TBA)

Also, Warner Bros.’ Black Adam was previously schedule for December 22, 2021 and Minecraft was scheduled to hit theaters on March 3, 2022. Both films are now looking for new release dates.

Johnson is reteaming with his Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra for the Black Adam. Collet-Serra will helm the film based on the DC Comics character for New Line Cinema. Adam Sztykiel wrote the current script.

The movie will introduce the Justice Society of America (JSA), including Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone and Atom Smasher (to be played by Noah Centineo).

Peter Sollett (Raising Victor Vargas) will write and direct the Minecraft movie, which follows a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers who, after the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.
