Tatiana Maslany to Play She-Hulk on Disney+

Marvel Studios has cast Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany to play the title character in the She-Hulk series coming to the Disney+ streaming service.

According to Deadline, Kat Coiro (upcoming Marry Me) will direct the pilot and several other episodes. She will also serve as an executive producer.

Tatiana Maslany won an Emmy Award for portraying multiple characters in Orphan Black. Her TV credits also include Perry Mason, Heartland, The Nativity, and Being Erica.

Maslany has appeared in feature films such as Diary of the Dead, Eastern Promises, The Vow, Picture Day, Woman in Gold, Stronger, and Destroyer.

Coiro has directed TV shows such as Dead to Me, Shameless, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Mozart in the Jungle.

Leading the writers room for the She-Hulk series is Jessica Gao, who is best known for writing the “Pickle Rick” episode of Rick and Morty. She’s also written for Silicon Valley, Robot Chicken, The Mighty B!, Back at the Barnyard, Star Wars: Detours, and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.

In the Marvel comics, lawyer Jennifer Walters’ entire life changed when she received an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner.

With gamma-irradiated blood coursing through her veins, Jen became the powerhouse She-Hulk. But while she gained massive strength, she never lost her passion for justice.

Created by writer Stan Lee and artist John Buscema, She-Hulk first appeared in The Savage She-Hulk #1 in February of 1980.

She-Hulk is joining several Marvel Studios projects in the works for Disney+, such as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Loki (see all three in the Super Bowl spot below). It is unknown when She-Hulk would begin production.

Marvel Studios president and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige previously revealed that characters such Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk will appear in Marvel Cinematic Universe movies following their Disney+ debuts.

“Some characters like we’ve announced, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight, you will meet for the first time on a Disney+ show and then they’ll go into the movies but the MCU will now go back and forth,” Feige said.

“We are certainly doing cinematic art-level productions for Disney+,” Feige added. “All of [the] characters will undergo transformative, I hope very-exciting changes in that show and then go into our movies, so they’ll go back and forth.”
