Lionsgate has brought online the new Antebellum trailer, which previews the thriller from the producer of the acclaimed films Get Out and Us. You can watch the new Antebellum trailer using the player below and we’ve also included the previously-released trailers.
Antebellum, coming to theaters on August 21, 2020, stars Janelle Monáe, Marque Richardson II, Eric Lang, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone.
The film was directed and written by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz (Bush+Renz). Principal photography for the movie began in May 2019. In the film, successful author Veronica Henley (Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.
Monáe previously told HuffPost that she got chills reading the script. “I know that it’s about to open up another dimension in my life as an artist and as an actor, and this is definitely one of my most layered and toughest roles to date. So I had to do some real meditation and prayer. I had to work out a lot. I had to get my head in the mental space to go through Veronica’s journey.”
The idea originated from a nightmare Bush had shortly after his father died. “I felt like the woman in the nightmare was so desperate for help that she was screaming through multiple dimensions and that this could exist in a different space and time,” Bush said.
“And then we built out the story. What people will experience in the movie is pretty much the nightmare.”
The movie was produced by Gerard Bush, Christopher Renz, Raymond Mansfield, Sean McKittrick, Zev Foreman, and Lezlie Wills.
Monáe is a singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, and producer whose previous acting credits include the Academy Award-winning Best Picture Moonlight, Best Picture nominee Hidden Figures, Robert Zemeckis’ Welcome to Marwen, and Harriet.
