Taika Waititi Says Korg Is Returning for Thor: Love and Thunder

Taika Waititi has been promoting his new film, JoJo Rabbit, and he’s been asked about his next directorial effort, the highly-anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder. The filmmaker was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Kimmel asked if he could reveal anything about the fourth installment.

After mentioning the previously-announced news that Natalie Portman would be returning as Jane Foster, who will become the Mighty Thor, the goddess of Thunder, Waititi also mentioned that his character Korg will be back. Waititi played Korg in both Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame.

Opening in theaters on November 5, 2021, Thor: Love and Thunder will be written and directed by Waititi and also features the return of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. You can watch the interview segment below.

In related news, the filmmaker and actor talked to Variety and was asked if the comics storyline of Jane Foster’s breast cancer would be part of the next movie. “I think that’s a really powerful part of the books. I think it’s really cool that she’s fighting this thing and there’s two battles going on. Personally I really love that storyline,” he said. “But whether it ends up in the film is yet to be seen.”

He added: “We’re not sure if we’re going to do a complete lift of that whole storyline. These things change through the shoot and even when we’re editing sometimes. Like, ‘Let’s get rid of that storyline where she’s got breast cancer. We’ll change it to something else, or maybe she’s fine.’”

Directed by Waititi, Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok earned an impressive $853.9 million at the worldwide box office in 2017. $315 million of the total came from domestic theaters and $538.9 million from international markets.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Cate Blanchett). But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) – and grapple with his silver-tongued adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the fierce warrior Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the eccentric Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum).

Avengers: Endgame saw Thor joining his fellow Avengers to take down Thanos. He then appoints Valkyrie as the new ruler of New Asgard and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, who will go on a quest to look for Gamora.
