Walt Disney Animation Studios has revealed the official teaser trailer and poster from the all-new feature film Strange World. You can watch the teaser using the player below and you’ll find the full poster underneath.
In the film, Jake Gyllenhaal (The Guilty, Spider-Man: Far From Home) lends his voice to Searcher Clade, the son of a steadfast explorer.
The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest — and by far — most crucial mission.
The movie is directed by Don Hall (Oscar-winning Big Hero 6, Raya and the Last Dragon) and co-director/writer Qui Nguyen (co-writer Raya and the Last Dragon).
The film is produced by Roy Conli (Oscar-winning Big Hero 6, Tangled), Strange World releases November 23, 2022.
According to director Don Hall, Strange World is a nod to pulp magazines – popular fiction from the first half of the 20th century that was printed on inexpensive wood pulp paper.
“I loved reading the old issues of pulps growing up,” Hall said previously. “They were big adventures in which a group of explorers might discover a hidden world or ancient creatures. They’ve been a huge inspiration for ‘Strange World.’”
Walt Disney Animation Studios released two animated films last year, including Raya and the Last Dragon (March 5, 2021 in both theaters and on Disney+) and Encanto (November 24, 2021 in theaters).
The former grossed $130.4 million at the worldwide box office, while the latter earned $255.7 million globally. Both movies were later nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 94th Academy Awards, with Encanto taking home the big price.
Encanto is the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto.
The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal – every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz).
But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.
Raya and the Last Dragon takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity.
Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world – It’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.
