Starz (start your free trial) has announced the movie and TV titles coming to the service in June. The Starz June 2021 schedule celebrates LGTBQ Pride with hundreds of movies and series on linear channels, available for download or streaming via the Starz app.
The Starz June 2021 lineup includes new comedy series Blindspotting, which will premiere worldwide on Sunday, June 13 at 9:00 PM ET/PT across all STARZ platforms in the U.S. and Canada and will air day and date internationally on the STARZPLAY premium streaming platform across its complete footprint in Europe, Latin America and Japan.
The series picks up six months after the film and centers on Ashley, who is nipping at the heels of a middle-class life in Oakland until Miles, her partner of 12 years and father of their son, is suddenly incarcerated, leaving her to navigate a chaotic and humorous existential crisis when she is forced to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister.
Starz acquired two documentaries, including Ahead of the Curve and The Sound of Identity.
Available for download or streaming on Tuesday, June 1 via the Starz app and on Starz on Monday, June 7 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, Ahead of the Curve traces the story of Curve magazine and lesbian representation in media from the early ’90s to today through the story of Frances “Franco” Steven’s founding of Curve magazine.
Also available for streaming on Tuesday, June 1 on the Starz app and premiering on Monday, June 21 at 9:00 PM ET/PT across all platforms, The Sound of Identity spotlights the global media coverage of the first transgender woman ever to perform as Don Giovanni in a professional opera as she makes her historic debut in one of the reddest states in the U.S.
The new surreal and sultry series six-part limited series Little Birds will premiere Sunday, June 6 at 9PM ET/PT on Starz and across all platforms. The series stars Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Juno Temple and Yumna Marwan. Little Birds follows New York heiress Lucy Savage (Juno Temple) fresh off the transatlantic steamer and ready for love and marriage in exotic climes.
But when her husband Hugo (Hugh Skinner) does not receive her in the way she expected, she spins off into the surprising, diverse and degenerate world of Tangier in 1955. Period drama about an ingénue abroad this is not.
Instead, Little Birds is a modern tale of a woman losing and then finding herself down a mesmerizing rabbit hole. What Lucy discovers is a world in flux, a country quivering on the cusp of independence, populated by a myriad of characters including a provocative dominatrix, Cherifa Lamor (Yumna Marwan) who particularly captures Lucy’s imagination.
Little Birds is a bold and subversive re-invention of melodrama for our times that takes the audience on a witty, moving and provocative journey towards freedom and independence.
The month STARZ will wrap up the third season of the critically-acclaimed anthology series The Girlfriend Experience from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh.
The Girlfriend Experience will have a double episode finale (episodes 309 and 310) on Sunday, June 20 at 8:00 PM ET/PT.
Episodes of Step Up: High Water will air every Friday night in June on Starz at 8PM ET/PT.
