Starz (start your free trial) has announced the movie and TV titles coming to the service in July. The Starz July 2021 schedule taking audiences back to the early ’90s with Power Book III: Raising Kanan, the Power prequel set in South Jamaica Queens, premiering Sunday, July 18 on Starz across all platforms.
Set in in 1991, Raising Kanan revolves around the coming of age of Kanan Stark, the 15-year-old child of Raq Thomas, a cocaine distributor with an emerging network of dealers across New York City.
Much like the original Power series, Raising Kanan explores themes of identity, violence, and legacy, but it is also a deep dive into the very pathology of family; the unique, complicated and fraught dynamic between parent and child, mother and father, brother and sister.
The comedy series Run the World wraps its first season with episode 107 on July 4 and the season finale (episode 108) on July 11 at 8:30 pm. Little Birds takes its final flight with its last two episodes as well – episode 105 on July 4 and the finale (episode 106) on July 11 at 9:30 pm.
Blindspotting, created and executive produced by Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs, returns on July 18 at 9 pm with episode 105 following a one-week hiatus. Episode 106 follows on Sunday, July 25 at 9 pm.
The Starz July 2021 lineup also includes new four-part limited series The Deceived, starring Paul Mescal (Normal People), Catherine Walker (Cursed), Emmet J. Scanlan (Gangs of London) and Emily Reid (The Trouble with Maggie Cole) premieres Sunday, July 18 at 9:30 pm with episode 102 available across all platforms on July 25.
The Deceived is a modern take on a classic psychological thriller. The drama follows English student, Ophelia, who falls in love with her charismatic lecturer, Michael. Following the accidental death of Michael’s wife, Ophelia moves to Ireland to be with him, just as suspicions around his wife’s death start to grow. As Ophelia finds herself taking the place of a dead woman, she must discover whether it is the ghost of Michael’s wife haunting her, or her own guilt
The Deceived puts a modern woman at the heart of a gothic romance where nothing is as it seems, and asks the question: to what extent, if any, should you put your trust in someone else, even when circumstances threaten to drive you mad?
