Starz App September 2018 Movie and TV Titles Announced

Starz has announced the movie and titles coming to their App in September 2018. They have also revealed the titles that will be leaving the service next month. The Starz App September 2018 highlights include:

Warriors of Liberty City (Premieres on Starz September 16th at 8 PM ET/PT)
Liberty City is a neighborhood in Miami, which has produced the most amount of NFL players in any region of the country – 25. While Liberty City has had much success in this area, it was referred to by the New York Times as a ‘forgotten’ city that battles high levels of poverty and violence. Liberty City Warriors, co-founded by hip-hop legend Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell, is a youth football program, among other things, that teaches kids discipline and teamwork while keeping them off the streets and away from violence in the neighborhood. Through sports and other after school activities, the program inspires hope in the community’s kids, encouraging them to envision a life beyond their present situations. NFL stars like Duke Johnson, Teddy Bridgewater, Devonta Freeman, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson have all come from the Liberty City program and can speak volumes to what the program has done for them with their success alone. The documentary gives viewers an eye-opening reality and intimate look and perspective inside the world of Liberty City. “Warriors of Liberty City” is executive produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

Land of the Free (Premieres on Starz September 10th at 9 PM ET/PT)
In South Los Angeles, we follow Brian, a 42-year-old man, just released after having spent his whole adult life in prison. On his own, he must adapt to a modernized and changed society. He has to tackle the challenges of the Internet, getting a driver’s license, and finding love. Brian’s story is interwoven with Juan and Gianni’s. Juan is a teenager on probation, who wants to be a father for his baby daughter, but he is struggling to leave the drug and gang lifestyle behind. 7-year-old Gianni lives in a crowded home, to which he is confined. His mother is back from jail, but the two are finding it hard to reconnect. When she tries to keep him off the streets and away from the gangs outside, he rebels. Filmmaker, Camilla Magid (White Black Boy, From Palestine with Love) has followed their lives for over two years and the film shows with precision the psychological impact of a prison system that focuses on punishment rather than prevention and rehabilitation. The three characters merge into one life story in this intimate portrait of people living in a society where help is scarce and you have to rely on your own resources to get by.

A Fantastic Woman (Premieres on Starz September 6th at 9 PM ET/PT)
Marina (Daniela Vega) and Orlando (Francisco Reyes) are in love and planning for the future. Marina is a young waitress and aspiring singer. Orlando is 20 years older than her, and owns a printing company. After celebrating Marina’s birthday one evening, Orlando falls seriously ill. Marina rushes him to the emergency room, but he passes away just after arriving at the hospital. Instead of being able to mourn her lover, suddenly Marina is treated with suspicion. The doctors and Orlando’s family don’t trust her. A woman detective investigates Marina to see if she was involved in his death. Orlando’s ex-wife forbids her from attending the funeral. And to make matters worse, Orlando’s son threatens to throw Marina out of the flat she shared with Orlando. Marina is a trans woman and for most of Orlando’s family, her sexual identity is an aberration, a perversion. So Marina struggles for the right to be herself. She battles the very same forces that she has spent a lifetime fighting just to become the woman she is now – a complex, strong, forthright and fantastic woman.
