Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Passes the $500 Million Mark

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has passed the $500 million mark in its first eight days of global release, with $516.8 million to date. The film posted an estimated domestic Christmas Day of $32 million, the second-best Christmas Day ever behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

On Wednesday, the film added $32 million in North America and $16.8 million overseas, for a global day of $48.8 million. That means the final film in the Skywalker saga has grossed $258.9 million domestically and $257.9 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $516.8 million.

The top international markets include: UK ($36M); Germany ($29.3M); France ($22.8M); Japan ($19.8M); Australia ($15.5M); China ($14.6M); Spain ($10.3M); Mexico ($9.3M); Italy ($8.1M); Brazil ($7M); Russia ($6.8M); and Sweden ($5.4M).

Opening in 2015, The Force Awakens ended up with $936.6 million domestically and $1.132 billion internationally, for a worldwide total of $2.068 billion. 2017’s The Last Jedi grossed $620.2 million in North America and $712.4 million overseas, for a global total of $1.333 billion.

Lucasfilm and director J.J. Abrams join forces once again to take viewers on an epic journey to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the riveting conclusion of the seminal Skywalker saga, where new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is yet to come.

Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio. The film stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, and Billy Dee Williams.

Composer John Williams, who has scored every chapter in the Star Wars saga since 1977’s A New Hope, returns to a galaxy far, far away. The movie is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Michelle Rejwan, and executive produced by Callum Greene and Jason McGatlin.
