New Spider-Man Story to Be Written by Hamilton Star

According to Bleeding Cool, the upcoming Marvel Comics Presents #3 will include a new Spider-Man story that will be written by Broadway’s own James Monroe Inglehart. Inglehart is currently playing the dual roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton, and originated the role of the Genie in Broadway’s Aladdin for which he won a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award. He has also appeared in the shows The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Memphis.

A self-professed ‘nerd’, Inglehart will be living the ultimate geeky dream of writing his own comic for Marvel which will be drawn by artist Ray-Anthony Height (X-Men: Wakanda Forever, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur).

In addition to the Spider-Man story, the comic will include the continuing Wolverine story, “The Vigil” by Charles Soule and Paige Siqueira, as well as a Captain America story set during the Civil Rights movement, written by Andrew Aydin and drawn by Daniel Acuna.

This is not the first time that Marvel mixed with Broadway. Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, a musical based on the Spider-Man comics created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and featuring music and lyrics by Bono and the Edge of the band U2, began previews in November 2010. The musical combined the origin story of Spider-Man with the Greek myth of Arachne. After many troubles, including injuries sustained by the cast, staff changes, and re-writes, the show opened in June of 2011 and closed on January 4, 2014.

(The current MCU Spider-Man is also no stranger to musicals. Tom Holland, who will be reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home is also a dancer who appeared in the title role of the West-End production of Elton John’s Billy Elliot the Musical).

This time the tables are turned with the Broadway star foraying into the print world of comics. I love it when my geek worlds collide! Marvel Comics Presents #3 is set to be released at the end of March. This will be a special addition to Broadway and comics collectors everywhere.
