SHOWTIME JULY 2021 ORIGINALS

THE END
Series Premiere Sunday, July 18

In The End, three generations of a family live with separate but intersecting obsessions – trying to figure out how to die with dignity, live with none and make it all count. The series centers on Dr. Kate Brennan, an Australian-based specialist in palliative care. Euthanasia is a hot-button topic in Kate’s field of work, and she is passionate in her opposition. On the other side of the world, Kate’s mother Edie Henley feels just as strongly about her right to die.

Kate has little choice but to ship Edie out from England and deposit her in Australia’s Gold Coast in a nearby retirement community – Edie’s worst nightmare. While Kate struggles with her own problems, her children, one of whom is a teenage trans boy, are trying to work out who they are and who they want to be. The End is a story about family, ethics and emotion, and mostly how it’s never too late to start again.

THE ONE AND ONLY DICK GREGORY
Documentary Premiere Sunday, July 4

The One and Only Dick Gregory unpacks the career of Dick Gregory, the activist, pop-culture icon and thought leader who changed the lives of millions across the world through constant disruption and awareness. Gregory inspired a generation through on-the-ground activism, an untiring desire to help and his influential comedy. Featuring archival footage of his early career as a comedian, the film is bookended with Gregory’s own voice just before his death in 2017, reflecting on the impact of his life on the world as a self-described “agitator.”

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Wanda Sykes, W. Kamau Bell, Lena Waithe and others discuss Gregory’s paradigm-shifting significance on the art of comedy and culture. The film features original music by Black Thought of the Grammy award-winning hip-hop band The Roots.

DESUS & MERO
Thursdays & Sundays at 11 p.m. ET/PT

Desus & Mero, the network’s first-ever late-night talk show, will continue to air weekly on Sunday and Thursday nights at 11 p.m. ET/PT from New York City. Each episode of Desus & Mero features co-hosts Desus Nice and The Kid Mero giving their take on the day’s hot topics and chatting with guests at the intersection of pop culture, sports, music, politics and more.

THE CHI
Sundays

This season of The Chi will look at the wide-ranging effects of policing in the Black community after Jake has a fateful run-in with a group of officers. Newlyweds Emmett and Tiff deal with the repercussions from his affair with Dom. Kiesha grapples with her pregnancy, while Jada finds love where she least expects. The relationship between Kevin and Jemma takes a turn, and Papa launches a new venture. New mayor Douda harnesses his newfound power while navigating his complicated relationship with wife Roselyn. Meanwhile, Trig and Imani are on a personal mission to help their community.

BLACK MONDAY
Sundays

Things are looking up for our motley crew as season three grooves into the ’90s. Mo dips into the music business with the launch of KokoMo Co Records. But the crown jewel in his new venture, Nomi, a self-possessed young talent with the voice to prove it, might be too hot to handle. Meanwhile, Dawn is serving her sentence and herself by exploiting her business savvy behind bars. Freshman Congressman Blair, a guppy navigating shark-filled political waters, is aided by his equally ambitious new Young Republican handler Werner.

Keith is morphing, literally and figuratively, into a lost Leighman Brother, while the red-hot success of Skants is catapulting Tiff to mega-moguldom. But all their happy days are numbered when it’s revealed that a killer is lurking among them. As the body count climbs and the threats multiply, our band of traitorous traders will be running for cover before margin call.

FLATBUSH MISDEMEANORS
Sundays

New half-hour comedy Flatbush Misdemeanors is a raw comedy of city life following Dan Perlman and Kevin Iso, both series creators and writers, who also play characters struggling to thrive in their new surroundings in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The show explores two long-time friends seeking to climb out of their heads and connect with others. For their work writing, directing and starring in the shorts that form the foundation of the series, Iso and Perlman won Best North American Short Film at the London Film Festival, with the first instalment becoming Oscar qualified following a Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Florida Film Festival.

As with the original shorts, the cast includes many actors from Brooklyn or the Flatbush neighborhood, including Kristin Dodson in the role of Zayna, one of Dan’s outspoken high school students, Hassan Johnson as Drew, a bold and direct man whose demands come into conflict with the livelihoods of both Kevin and Dan and Kareem Green as Kareem, Dan’s new stepdad and self-appointed, unwanted guide to Flatbush.
