Showtime February 2023 Schedule Announced

Showtime has announced the movies, TV shows and sports programming coming to the service in February. The Showtime February 2023 lineup includes the documentary film Stand, which will kick of a month of thought-provoking stories as it details the life and controversy of NBA player Abdul-Rauf and his stand against racism and social justice following his conversion to Islam.

The Showtime February 2023 slate also features three-part docuseries Murder in Big Horn, from directors Razelle Benally and Matthew Galkin. In the series, Benally (Dark Winds), who is of Oglala Lakota & Diné descent, and Galkin (Murder in the Bayou) investigate the disappearances of numerous young indigenous women and girls from the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Nations.

Showtime February 2023 Schedule Announced

With little assistance from local law enforcement, families of these missing indigenous women are often left with more questions than answers in phenomenon that would lead to nationwide news had they not occurred on Native land.

In The 12th Victim, Caril Fugate, who is infamously associated with the 1958 Starkweather murders, attempts to reclaim her own agency. Often referred to as the Bonnie to convicted spree killer Charles Starkweather’s Clyde, Fugate, though convicted of first-degree murder, claims she was operating with Starkweather under duress.

Showtime February 2023 Schedule Announced

Based on The Twelfth Victim book written by Linda Battisti and John Stevens, The 12th Victim is told through archival footage, reenactments and pop culture iterations of the dramatic killing spree that Fugate has been tangled with since she was 14 years old.

Season eight of The Circus, which premieres on Friday, February 26, examines what may be a tumultuous two years for President Joe Biden as he braces for a litany GOP-led investigations following Republicans’ takeover, albeit slim, of The House of Representatives.

SHOWTIME FEBRUARY 2023 ORIGINALS

STAND – Documentary Premiere: Friday, February 3
The raw and unflinching Stand details Abdul-Rauf’s unprecedented journey from schoolboy prodigy to NBA All-Rookie team to national pariah. Stand explores the personal struggles of Abdul-Rauf – born Chris Jackson in Gulfport, Mississippi – and how he overcame overwhelming odds, including extreme poverty and Tourette’s Syndrome, to make it to basketball’s biggest stage.

The film also details Abdul-Rauf’s conversion to Islam and his groundbreaking stand against racism and for social justice, and the backlash that ensued.

MURDER IN BIG HORN – Docuseries Premiere: Friday, February 3
Within the past decade, dozens of young Indigenous women and girls from the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Nations have disappeared from Montana’s Big Horn County and its surrounding areas. Grieving Native families who fear the worst press local law enforcement for answers, but their pleas are most often met with silence or indifference. Arrests in these cases are rare, and convictions are virtually nonexistent.

Elsewhere in America, similar stories of disappearances and death shock communities and become nationwide news, but when they occur on Native land, a circle of bereft family members, friends, and activists are left to fight for justice on their own. Murder in Big Horn intimately embeds with these families and this community in an effort to shine a light on the unanswered mysteries of this land.

THE 12TH VICTIM – Docuseries Premiere: Friday, February 17
Brought to you by Tremolo Productions, in association with Submarine, The 12th Victim, directed by Nicola Marsh (Twenty Feet From Stardom) is a thrilling limited documentary series centering on the villainization, representation, and ultimate legacy of Caril Fugate’s role in the 1958 Starkweather murders. The 12th Victim will let Caril reclaim her narrative and uncover her mindset and intentions.

While Caril was being painted as America’s most infamous fourteen-year-old killer and the more vicious half of a murderous Bonnie and Clyde duo, Caril claims that she was being held hostage by her 18-year-old James Dean wannabe boyfriend. Based on “The Twelfth Victim” book, written by Linda Battisti and John Stevens, this four-part series is told through a harmonious blend of archival, recreations, and a plethora film and television iterations of the story, including Badlands (1973) and Natural Born Killers (1994).

THE CIRCUS: INSIDE THE GREATEST POLITICAL SHOW ON EARTH – Docuseries Season 8 Premiere: Sunday, February 26
The Circus hits the ground running in 2023 to examine a new era of divided government as President Joe Biden braces for withering GOP-led House investigations. Meanwhile bitter divisions among Republicans signal a tumultuous year ahead for the party and the nation.

And while President Biden mulls a bid for reelection amidst questions about his mishandling of classified documents, former President Donald Trump is facing multiple investigations of his own, as well as staring down a list of potential Republican challengers, in his third run for the White House.
