20th Century Fox is reportedly looking to make an R-rated reboot of Home Alone with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds producing and possibly playing a role. The project is titled Stoned Alone and has Augustine Frizzell (Never Goin’ Back) attached to direct from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.
According to Deadline, “Stoned Alone is reminiscent of that hallowed comedy classic. It centers around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.”
Sounds like it’s right up Reynolds’ alley! He will produce through his Fox-based Maximum Effort. Maximum Effort’s George Dewey will executive produce.
The original Home Alone was released in 1990. The Chris Columbus-directed, starring Macaulay Culkin was (and still is) a huge success. A sequel, Lost in New York, was released in 1992. Both films also starred Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, and Catherine O’Hara. A third film was released in 1997, but it had a completely different cast and was not nearly as successful.
