Ricky Gervais Introduces The Willoughbys in a New Clip

Netflix has debuted a new clip from The Willoughbys in which Ricky Gervais, who voice the cat in the film, introduces the characters. The adaptation of the Lois Lowry book (buy at Amazon) launches on the streaming service on April 22.

Directed by Kris Pearn (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2), the film also features the voices of Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Alessia Cara, Terry Crews, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski, and Séan Cullen.

In The Willoughbys, written by Pearn and Mark Stanleigh, convinced they’d be better off raising themselves, the Willoughby children hatch a sneaky plan to send their selfish parents on vacation. The siblings then embark on their own high-flying adventure to find the true meaning of family.

The Willoughbys is a highly-stylized CG animated feature film developed by BRON Animation in in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The characters in the film were designed by character designer Craig Kellman, who designed the characters for DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar and Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania, as well as MGM’s The Addams Family.

From the Newbery Medal-winning author of The Giver and Number the Stars, the book is officially described as follows:

“The Willoughby’s — Timothy; his twin brothers, Barnaby A and Barnaby B; and their little sister, Jane — are old-fashioned children who adore old-fashioned adventures. Unfortunately, the Willoughby parents are not very fond of their children, and the truth is that the siblings are not too keen on their parents either.

Little do the Willoughby kids know that their neglectful mother and father are hatching an evil plan to get rid of them! Not to worry – these resourceful adventurers have a few plans of their own. But they have no idea what lies ahead in their quest to rid themselves of their ghastly parents and live happily ever after.”
