Resident Evil TV Series in Development at Netflix

Netflix is developing a Resident Evil TV series with German production and distribution company Constantin Film, according to Deadline. Constantin Film is behind the series of Resident Evil movies starring Milla Jovovich and based on the Capcom video game series.

The site says that Netflix and Constantin Film are currently searching for a showrunner to take on the Resident Evil TV series. The show will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus.

Last month, it was announced that Constantin Film had hired 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts to write and direct the Resident Evil movie reboot. When the project was first announced, Constantin was said to be planning six new films with an all-new cast.

The Resident Evil movies starring Milla Jovovich have earned over $1.2 billion worldwide to date, making it the highest-grossing film series based on a video game. The most recent film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, earned $312.2 million worldwide in early 2017 on a budget of just $40 million.

The news comes on the same day that the Resident Evil 2 remake hits stores.
