Promising Young Woman Filming Begins in Los Angeles

Production has begun in Los Angeles on Promising Young Woman, with Carey Mulligan (Paul Dano’s Wildlife, Suffragette) and Bo Burnham (Eighth Grade) leading an all-star cast that includes Alison Brie (Glow, The Post), Connie Britton (Dirty John, Friday Night Lights), Adam Brody (Shazam!, The O.C.), Jennifer Coolidge (A Mighty Wind, Legally Blonde), Laverne Cox (Orange Is the New Black), Max Greenfield (New Girl, Hello, My Name Is Doris), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Superbad), Sam Richardson (Veep, Detroiters), and Molly Shannon (Other People, Divorce).

Everyone said Cassie (Carey Mulligan) was a promising young woman… until a tragic event abruptly derailed her future. Now she’s a medical school drop-out, living at home with her worried parents and working at a coffee shop with a concerned boss (Laverne Cox). It seems like she is at a standstill, except for the double life Cassie leads at night…

Promising Young Woman is written and directed by Emerald Fennell (Killing Eve, The Crown, Call the Midwife). Fennell is also producing with FilmNation’s Ben Browning and LuckyChap Entertainment’s Margot Robbie, Josey McNamara, and Tom Ackerley. FilmNation’s Ashley Fox is executive producing, and Fiona Walsh Heinz is co-producing. Focus Features and Universal Pictures International will distribute the film worldwide, excluding Australia, New Zealand, Benelux, Israel, Greece, Middle East, CIS, and South Africa.

“I am beyond excited to be working with so many impossibly talented and wonderful people on Promising Young Woman,” said Fennell. “Frankly, I feel lucky to be allowed anywhere in the vicinity of so many geniuses, and I can’t wait to bring this twisted tale to life.”

The filmmakers of Promising Young Woman also include production designer Michael Perry (Under the Silver Lake, Killer Elite), costume designer Nancy Steiner (Twin Peaks, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) and director of photography Benjamin Kracun (Beast, The Tunnel).
