Paramount Pictures has released the first Pet Sematary photos, which preview the April 5, 2019 release. Starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz and John Lithgow, the film is a new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name.
Published in 1983, the book is described as follows: “The road in front of Dr. Louis Creed’s rural Maine home frequently claims the lives of neighborhood pets. Louis has recently moved from Chicago to Ludlow with his wife Rachel, their children and pet cat. Near their house, local children have created a cemetery for the dogs and cats killed by the steady stream of transports on the busy highway. Deeper in the woods lies another graveyard, an ancient Indian burial ground whose sinister properties Louis discovers when the family cat is killed.”
Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer directed the new film from a script by David Kajganich and Jeff Buhler. The producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Steven Schneider and Mark Vahradian.
Paramount previously adapted the book into a 1989 feature film, directed by Mary Lambert and written by Stephen King. The movie, which grossed $57.5 million, starred Dale Midkiff, Fred Gwynne, Denise Crosby, Brad Greenquist, Michael Lombard, Miko Hughes, and Blaze Berdahl.
A sequel was released in 1992, again directed by Mary Lambert and starring Edward Furlong, Anthony Edwards, Clancy Brown, and Jared Rushton. Pet Sematary Two grossed just $17.1 million at the box office.
