Pet Sematary Cast and Crew on Making a Truly Terrifying Movie

Paramount Pictures has released a new featurette in which the Pet Sematary cast and directors talk about what makes a true horror movie. The film will close the 2019 SXSW Film Festival and is scheduled to open in theaters on April 5.

Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences. Jeté Laurence, Hugo Lavoie, and Lucas Lavoie also star.

Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer directed the new film from a script by Jeff Buhler. The producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Steven Schneider and Mark Vahradian. The film was executive produced by Mark Moran.

“If you want to make a truly terrifying movie you have to go back to the master of horror himself, Stephen King.” -Dennis Widmyer, Co-Director of Pet Sematary

Paramount previously adapted the book into a 1989 feature film, directed by Mary Lambert and written by Stephen King. The movie, which grossed $57.5 million, starred Dale Midkiff, Fred Gwynne, Denise Crosby, Brad Greenquist, Michael Lombard, Miko Hughes, and Blaze Berdahl.

A sequel was released in 1992, again directed by Mary Lambert and starring Edward Furlong, Anthony Edwards, Clancy Brown, and Jared Rushton. Pet Sematary Two grossed just $17.1 million at the box office.
