Original Ghostbusters Stars Shot Their Afterlife Scenes in One Week

Vanity Fair got a chance to visit the Calgary, Canada set of Sony Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Afterlife and learned that the original Ghostbusters stars shot their scenes over the span of a week. They add that each one of the original actors has a meaningful role in the movie.

Visiting that week to shoot their scenes were Bill Murray, “Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, reprising their respective roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore. Also visiting the location during that those days were Annie Potts the long-suffering receptionist Janine Melnitz and Sigourney Weaver who played frequent malevolence magnet Dana Barrett.”

The magazine isn’t saying how the original Ghostbusters stars will figure into the July 10, 2020 release or how it will handle the absence of the late Harold Ramis, who played Egon Spengler. “Well, we are a man down. That’s the deal,” Murray said. “And that’s the story that we’re telling, that’s the story they’ve written.”

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Directed by Jason Reitman and produced by Ivan Reitman, the movie stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd.

Coon plays a mom named Callie, with Grace as her science-obsessed daughter Phoebe, and Wolfhard as gearhead son Trevor. Phoebe and Trevor’s school teacher, Mr. Grooberson (played by Paul Rudd), was a kid when the Manhattan Crossrip occurred and is excited to pass on what he knows.

The film is written by Jason Reitman & Gil Kenan. It is produced by Ivan Reitman and executive produced by Dan Aykroyd, Gil Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, and Michael Beugg.

The movie is based on the 1984 film Ghostbusters (buy here), an Ivan Reitman film written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
