Noah Hawley to Direct the Next Star Trek Movie

-

Noah Hawley (Lucy in the SkyLegionFargo) is set to direct the next Star Trek movie for Paramount Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie will serve as the fourth installment in the current series.

Expected to be back for the new Star Trek movie are Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Doctor ‘Bones’ McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott and John Cho as Sulu. Anton Yelchin, who played Pavel Chekov in the films, passed away a month before the third movie was released.

The trade adds that this fourth installment will be separate as the project that Quentin Tarantino has been attached to for two years.

It was previously believed that the next Star Trek movie would feature Pine’s Kirk reunite with his father (Chris Hemsworth) in a time travel incident. Negotiations with Pine and Hemsworth fell apart in the summer of 2018 for that version of the project. S.J. Clarkson was attached to direct the movie at that time.

Hawley will produce via his 26 Keys along with Bad Robot, the production company run by J.J. Abrams, who directed the first two installments. The third movie was directed by Justin Lin.

The third movie, Star Trek Beyond, grossed $343 million worldwide on a budget of $190 million in 2016. Things kicked off in 2009 with Star Trek, which earned $386 million on a budget of $150 million, and that was followed by Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013 with $467.4 million worldwide.
