New Cold War Trailer: Poland’s Submission for the 91st Oscars

The film is now playing in New York and Los Angeles

Amazon Studios has debuted the new Cold War trailer, previewing Poland’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards. The film recently made the shortlist in the category. Cold War is now playing in New York and Los Angeles theaters and will expand to more cities later this month.

Cold War is directed by Pawel Pawlikowski (My Summer of Love, Last Resort). The film is written by Pawlikowski and Piotr Borkowski (Fear of Falling, Three for the Taking). It stars Joanna Kulig (O mnie sie nie martw, The Crime) and Tomasz Kot (Bikini Blue, The Photographer). Cold War earned Pawlikowski the Best Director award at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

Cold War is a passionate love story between a man and a woman who meet in the ruins of post-war Poland. With vastly different backgrounds and temperaments, they are fatefully mismatched and yet condemned to each other. Set against the background of the Cold War in 1950s Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris, it’s the tale of a couple separated by politics, character flaws and unfortunate twists of fate — an impossible love story in impossible times.

The 91st Academy Awards will air on Sunday, February 24. Last year’s winner of the Foreign Language Film award was A Fantastic Woman, which was submitted by Chile. Last year Poland submitted the film Spoor, which was not nominated.
