With the movie now scheduled to open in theaters on November 6, 2020, Titan Comics has debuted new Black Widow images from its upcoming The Official Movie Special (check price at Amazon). Black Widow: The Official Movie Special is currently set for an October 6, 2020 release.
The book features interviews with the stars of the film, including Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz. The behind-the-scenes book also includes photos and imagery from Marvel Studios’ latest movie.
In addition to the Black Widow images, Empire also spoke to the film’s director Cate Shortland, who revealed that Johansson’s Black Widow will be passing the baton to Florence Pugh’s Yelena.
“[Kevin Feige] realised that the audience would expect an origin story so, of course, we went in the opposite direction,” Shortland said. “And we didn’t know how great Florence Pugh would be. We knew she would be great, but we didn’t know how great. Scarlett is so gracious, like, ‘Oh, I’m handing her the baton.’ So it’s going to propel another female storyline.”
She added: “In Endgame, the fans were upset that Natasha did not have a funeral. Whereas Scarlett, when I spoke to her about it, said Natasha wouldn’t have wanted a funeral.
“She’s too private, and anyway, people don’t really know who she is. So what we did in this film was allow the ending to be the grief the individuals felt, rather than a big public outpouring. I think that’s a fitting ending for her.”
In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises.
Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.
Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Ray Winstone, William Hurt and O-T Fagbenle also star.
Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, Black Widow is the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Written by Jac Schaeffer, Ned Benson and Eric Pearson, the movie is executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Nigel Gostelow and Scarlett Johansson.
Johannson has played the role of Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
