Netflix today announced Wings of Fire, an animated event series for the whole family, based on the best-selling series of Scholastic book that have enthralled readers around the world with 14 million copies in print. The show comes to us from Warner Bros. Animation.
The epic fantasy saga marks the first animated series from Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Ava DuVernay and ARRAY Filmworks. Wings of Fire will consist of 10 40-minute episodes.
Wings of Fire is an animated event series adaptation of the #1 New York Times and USA Today best-selling book series from author Tui T. Sutherland. A bitter war has raged for generations between the dragon tribes who inhabit the epic world of Pyrrhia.
According to prophecy, five young dragons will rise to end the bloodshed and bring peace back to the land. Raised and trained in secret from the time they were hatched, the Dragonets of destiny – Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, and Sunny – embark on an evolving quest that will bring them face to face with their true selves and the overwhelming scope of this savage war they are destined to bring to an end.

The showrunners and executive producers include Dan Milano (Glitch Techs), Christa Starr (Mystery Science Theater 3000), Justin Ridge (Star Wars Resistance). Milano and Starr are adapting the book series for television.
Ava DuVernay, Dan Milano, Christa Starr, Justin Ridge, Tui T. Sutherland, Sam Register and Sarah Bremner for ARRAY Filmworks will also executive produce.
With more than nine million copies in print and available in 16 languages, the Wings of Fire book series is an epic adventure set in a world entirely ruled by dragons. Across two continents and 10 tribes, the series explores vicious wars, enduring friendships, and heroic quests that span generations of fascinating dragon characters.
This marks the first animated project for DuVernay as part of her exclusive overall deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group. For WBTVG, DuVernay is currently producing the OWN/Warner Horizon Scripted Television series Queen Sugar and Cherish the Day, as well as the HBO Max/Warner Bros. Television pilot DMZ, based on characters from DC.
Founded in 2012 by filmmaker Ava DuVernay, ARRAY is a multi-platform media company and arts collective based in Los Angeles. The organization currently operates a trio of branded entertainment entities including ARRAY Filmworks, ARRAY Releasing and ARRAY Creative Campus in partnership with its non-profit ARRAY Alliance.
