Netflix Orders Archive 81 Series, Debuts Selena Trailer

-

Netflix today announced a series order for Archive 81, an original story loosely inspired by the popular found footage horror podcast.

The writer, showrunner and executive producer of the eight, one-hour episode series is Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries). The original Archive 81 podcast was created by Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell who serve as co-producers on the series.

“With Archive 81, we’re hoping to give the supernatural horror genre a new twist — while keeping a dark, deeply emotional romance as its core,” said Sonnenshine.

“Alongside the talented Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi, and visionary partners Atomic Monster and Rebecca Thomas, I’m excited to take Netflix viewers on a terrifying and visually thrilling adventure.”

When archivist Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie, upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion) takes a mysterious job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994, he finds himself reconstructing the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras (Shihabi) and her investigation into a dangerous cult.

As Dan is drawn into Melody’s story, he becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago. Dina Shihabi (Ya Bint, Altered Carbon, Ramy, Jack Ryan) will play Melody Pendras.

Rebecca Thomas (Stranger Things, Limetown) also serves as executive producer. She will direct half of the season, including the first episode. Writer and executive producer Paul Harris Boardman (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Deliver Us From Evil) developed the original script.

Archive 81 comes from James Wan’s Atomic Monster (MacGyver; The Conjuring Universe film franchise; and the upcoming Malignant and There’s Someone Inside Your House). James Wan and Michael Clear are executive producers, while Rob Hackett is a co-executivepProducer.

Netflix today also debuted the trailer for Selena: The Series which you can watch below. Part one of the two-part series premieres on the streaming service December 4, 2020.

Before she became the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla was a young girl from Texas with big dreams and an even bigger voice.

Selena: The Series explores her journey from singing small gigs to becoming the most successful female Latin artist of all time — and the years of hard work and sacrifice the Quintanilla family navigated together.

From executive producers Jaime Dávila, Rico Martinez, Hiromi Kamata, Suzette Quintanilla, Simran A. Singh and Moises Zamora, Selena: The Series was created by Zamora, with Don Todd (This Is Us) consulting, and stars Christian Serratos, Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemí Gonzalez, and Seidy López.
