Luke Cage was the third original series in the partnership between Marvel Television and Netflix, following Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Iron Fist was the fourth and The Punisher was later added as well.
“Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series,” Netflix and Marvel Television said in a statement.
The news comes on the same day as the launch of Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3.
Luke Cage Season 2 featured the return of Mike Colter returns as the title character, with Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Theo Rossi as Shades and Finn Jones as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist. The second season was executive produced by series showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, Jim Chory, and Jeph Loeb, who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television.
