Netflix Announces True Story, Headspace Guide to Meditation and More

True Story

The new fictional, limited event series True Story marks Hart’s dramatic series debut and he also serves as an executive producer. The story focuses on Hart’s character Kid and his older brother Carlton, played by Snipes.

A tour stop in Kid’s hometown of Philadelphia becomes a matter of life and death for one of the world’s most famous comedians when the consequences of a lost evening with his wayward older brother threaten to destroy everything he’s built.

True Story was written and executive produced by Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman, under his overall Television deal with Netflix. Charles Murray (Luke Cage, Sons of Anarchy) serves as executive producer and showrunner.

Caroline Currier will oversee for Grand Electric. Hart’s Hartbeat Productions also serve as producers with Mike Stein and Tiffany Brown overseeing the project. Stephen Williams (Watchmen, Lost) will direct and executive produce the first four episodes. Hanelle Culpepper (Star Trek Picard, Kung Fu) will direct the final four episodes.

Writer and executive producer Eric Newman said: “Kevin Hart’s career is one defined by courageous creative risks and Wesley Snipes is a legendary talent – together they are truly a dream team. I am absolutely thrilled to be working with these two. As always, I am grateful to Netflix for their continued support, as well as to Charles Murray, Stephen Williams, and Hanelle Culpepper for their creative partnership.”

Hart added: “I’ve never been more excited about an acting project in my career. I’ve always been a fan of Wesley Snipes and working with him is mind-blowing. Having HartBeat Productions at the helm and working alongside Eric Newman as a partner and creative arm has been unreal, nobody is ready for what this show is going to be.”

Headspace Guide to Meditation

Netflix and Headspace are also teaming up for three original series coming in 2021, all produced by Vox Media Studios.

First, they’ll kick off the new year with the series Headspace Guide to Meditation premiering globally on January 1. A second series, Headspace Guide to Sleep, and an interactive experience will follow later in the year.

Headspace Guide to Meditation explores the foundation of meditation and how it can help us be more present and less distracted in our daily lives. Each episode focuses on a different benefit — from managing stress to embracing gratitude — and begins by teaching the approach and techniques, then concludes with a guided meditation.

Headspace co-founder and former Buddhist monk Andy Puddicombe leads every step of the way as he narrates the eight 20-minute episodes, his voice paired with playful animation and soothing music. The series will also be subtitled and dubbed in 30 languages.

End of the Road

Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah will star in and executive produce End of the Road for Netflix. Emmy nominee Millicent Shelton (P-Valley, Insecure, black-ish, Hunters, The Walking Dead) will direct.

In the series, after losing her job, recently-widowed Brenda drives her family cross-country to start a new life. In the New Mexico desert, cut off from help, they must learn to fight back when they become the targets of a mysterious killer.

David Loughery (The Intruder, Obsessed) will write the script based on an original screenplay by Christopher Moore.

The producers include Tracey Edmonds for Edmonds Entertainment, Mark Burg for Twisted Pictures, and Brad Kaplan. The executive producers are Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere for Flavor Unit Entertainment.

We Lost Our Human

Netflix has also announced new 2D animated interactive special We Lost Our Human, created by Rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt, creators of Pinky Malinky.

Audiences will choose to experience the story from the perspective of a self-involved cat (Pud) or a loving, hyperactive dog (Ham), who wake up one day to find that their human and ALL humans have disappeared from Earth! Desperate to find their owner, these two homebound pets venture out into the world for the first time to discover strange mysteries, meet bizarre creatures and maybe – with the audience’s help – save the universe along the way!

The special stars Ben Schwartz as Pud and Ayo Edebiri as Ham and includes Adrienne C. Moore, Lauren Tom, Jon Glaser, Henry Rollins, Lucas Grabeel and Matty Cardarople.

Rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt will serve as creators, executive producers and directors and wrote the screenplay alongside Laura Sreebny and Nick Arciaga.

Rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt said: “Creating a huge interactive project has been an exciting challenge and gave us a unique chance to approach Pud and Ham’s story outside of a traditional format. We got to explore their many parallel and interwoven paths, which resulted in our story room becoming a complex web of post-it notes, push pins and string. Quite a dizzying sight for anyone witnessing one of our story pitches!”

Curtis Lelash, Director of Original Animation, Netflix added: “We Lost Our Human combines the very best of animation, comedy and interactivity, expanding the possibilities of how stories are told today. We can’t wait for audiences of all ages to take this hilarious journey with Pud and Ham, because their fate rests in the audiences hands…literally.”
