There’s no slowing down the Netflix announcements and today we’ve got updates on The Sandman cast, a The Witch Boy adaptation, and the return of Lupin.
Netflix has announced that cast of The Sandman, a new dark fantasy series based on The Sandman comic book series created for DC by Neil Gaiman (Good Omens, Coraline). Gaiman is also an executive producer and co-writer. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television.
Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) serves as executive producer and showrunner. David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator: Dark Fate, Foundation) serves as executive producer and Goyer and Heinberg are also co-writers on the project.
A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.
“For the last thirty-three years, the Sandman characters have breathed and walked around and talked in my head. I’m unbelievably happy that now, finally, they get to step out of my head and into reality,” said Gaiman.
He added: “I can’t wait until the people out there get to see what we’ve been seeing as Dream and the rest of them take flesh, and the flesh belongs to some of the finest actors out there.
“This is astonishing, and I’m so grateful to the actors and to all of The Sandman collaborators — Netflix, Warner Bros., DC, to Allan Heinberg and David Goyer, and the legions of crafters and geniuses on the show — for making the wildest of all my dreams into reality.”

THE WITCH BOY
Netflix’s newest animated musical feature, The Witch Boy, will be directed by Oscar-nominated director Minkyu Lee (Adam and Dog). The film is based on the best-selling graphic novel series of the same title by Molly Knox Ostertag. It will be produced by Vertigo Entertainment and released by Netflix.
Three-time Grammy Award nominated band Haim is attached to write music for the film. The movie is written by Maria Melnik and produced by Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, and Ryan Harris.
In a secret, magical community where girls are born to be witches and boys grow into shapeshifters, Aster is surprised to discover his emerging and extraordinary witch powers. When a mysterious danger threatens his world, Aster must embark on a journey to uncover the truth behind himself, his powers, and everything that is magical.
“It has been a life-long dream of mine to create an animated film that pushes the medium forward, both in content and form,” said Minkyu Lee. “The connection between this dream, my experiences, and Aster and Juniper’s story is what draws me to this film every day. I am grateful to be creating this with the wonderful team at Netflix. My hope is that this film, by celebrating queerness and ‘otherness,’ will come to audiences around the world as something truly special.”
Netflix also announced today that hit French series Lupin will return this summer. The series, led by Omar Sy, has been No. 1 in Netflix’s Top 10 across more than ten countries. The five new episodes are directed by Ludovic Bernard (The Climb) and Hugo Gélin (Love at second sight).
Lupin also stars Hervé Pierre, Nicole Garcia, Clotilde Hesme, Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Shirine Boutella, and Soufiane Guerrab. The series is created by George Kay in collaboration with François Uzan. It is produced by Gaumont Télévision.
