NBCUniversal’s NBC and E! have handed out renewal orders to Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Total Bellas, respectively.
NBC is bringing more song and dance to the network with the season two renewal of its critically acclaimed and buzzworthy new series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
“We were overwhelmed by the number of people who fell in love with ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’ and how much joy it brought to everyone. We’re thrilled to bring it back and can’t wait to see how Zoey’s journey continues,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment.
The series centers on Zoey Clarke, a whip-smart computer coder forging her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event, Zoey, who always preferred podcasts over pop songs, suddenly starts to hear the innermost wants, thoughts and desires of the people around her — her family, co-workers and complete strangers — through popular songs.
At first, she questions her own sanity, but after getting some guidance from her musically adept neighbor, Mo, and making a breakthrough with her ailing father, Zoey soon realizes this unwanted curse may just be an incredibly wonderful gift as she connects with the world like never before.
Season one of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist averaged a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers overall in “live plus seven day” Nielsens, with the Jan. 7 series pilot growing to a 3.3 rating in 18-49 and 7.9 million viewers with digital and linear delayed viewing recorded to date. It’s one of NBC’s strongest digital performers, generating more than half its 35-day viewership in the 18-49 demo from digital sources.
All episodes of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist are now available on NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Peacock. The series stars Jane Levy, Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, with Peter Gallagher and Mary Steenburgen. Lauren Graham is special guest star.
Austin Winsberg writes and executive produces. Kim Tannenbaum and Eric Tannenbaum, Paul Feig, David Blackman, Daniel Inkeles and Sam Laybourne also serve as executive producers. Jason Wang, Samantha McIntyre and Davah Avena serve as co-executive producers with Dan Magnante, Michele Greco and Mandy Moore serving as producers.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is produced by Lionsgate and Universal Television in association with the Tannenbaum Company, Feigco Entertainment, Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment and Zihuatenejo Productions.
E!‘s hit series Total Bellas, which follows the lives of WWE Superstars and New York Times best-selling authors and entrepreneurs Nikki Bella and Brie Bella, has been renewed for a sixth season premiering later this fall.
The current fifth season of Total Bellas is averaging nearly 1 million total viewers, 604,000 P18-49 and 443,000 W18-49, up 10 percent, seven percent and 14 percent, respectively, from the prior season. This marks the highest-rated season among all key demos in two years.
Season five of the docuseries featured several milestones in the sisters’ lives, including Nikki and Artem’s romantic French engagement and the twins finding out they’re both expecting and due within weeks of each other.
The upcoming season will highlight the expansion of their families with the birth of their babies as Nikki navigates the joys of parenthood for the first time and Brie continues her journey of motherhood, now as a mom of two.
Total Bellas is produced by WWE and Bunim/Murray Productions with Gil Goldschein, Andrea Metz and Farnaz Farjam Chazan serving as Executive Producers for Bunim/Murray Productions and Kevin Dunn and Chris Kaiser serving as Executive Producer.
