Amazon Studios has acquired the My Spy streaming rights from STXfilms and MWM Studios. The action comedy, starring Dave Bautista, will launch exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. and key international territories.
The film was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on March 13, 2020, but it was moved back to April 17 due to current events. With theaters closed for the foreseeable future, the My Spy streaming deal will allow fans to see the movie.
My Spy follows JJ (Bautista), a hardened CIA operative who has been demoted and finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl named Sophie (Chloe Coleman). He has been sent undercover begrudgingly to surveil her family.
When Sophie discovers hidden cameras in her apartment, she uses her tech savviness to locate where the surveillance operation is set. In exchange for not blowing JJ’s cover, Sophie convinces him to spend time with her and teach her to be a spy. Despite his reluctance JJ finds he is no match for Sophie’s disarming charm and wit.
The film stars Dave Bautista, Kristen Schaal, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Chloe Coleman and Ken Jeong.
My Spy was directed Peter Segal from a script penned by Jon and Erich Hoeber. Producers are Chris Bender, Peter Segal, Jake Weiner, Robert Simonds, Gigi Pritzker, Dave Bautista and Jonathan Meisner.
Good Fear’s Chris Bender and Jake Weiner produced the project alongside MWM Studios, Dave Bautista, Jonathan Meisner and Peter Segal. Gigi Pritzker served as a producer, while Rachel Shane and Adrian Alperovich served as executive producers, and Stacy Calabrese as a co-producer, all on behalf of MWM Studios.
Erich Hoeber, Jon Hoeber and Michael Flynn also serve as executive producers.
Principal photography for the film began on October 15, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and concluded on November 30, 2018.
