MPA Ratings for Artemis Fowl, No Time to Die and Mulan

-

The MPA ratings (previously MPAA) have come in for the week and they include Artemis FowlBig Time AdolescenceNo Time to Die, and Mulan

Big Time Adolescence

In order of release, we’ll kick off the MPA ratings with Hulu‘s Big Time Adolescene, which has received an R for drug content, alcohol use, pervasive language, and sexual references – all involving teens. The comedy premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2019. Hulu will make the movie available in select theaters on March 13 before it launches on the streaming service March 20th.

Big Time Adolescence Red Band Trailer with Pete Davidson

In the film, a seemingly bright and mostly innocent 16-year old named Mo (Griffin Gluck) attempts to navigate high school under the guidance of hi best friend Zeke (Pete Davidson), an unmotivated-yet-charismatic college dropout. Although Zeke genuinely cares about Mo, things start to go awry as he teaches Mo nontraditional life lessons in drug dealing, partying, and dating. Meanwhile, Mo’s well-meaning Dad (Jon Cryer) tries to step in and take back the reins of his son’s upbringing.

Working from his own sharp script, director Jason Orley has created an all-too-real look at what it’s like to be a teenager today. He’s supported by his strong cast, including Emily Arlook, Colson Baker (aka “Machine Gun Kelly”), Thomas Barbusca, Oona Laurence, and Sydney Sweeney. The result is a fresh coming-of-age tale that’s still familiar in all the right ways.

The New Trailer for Mulan Released!

Mulan

Next up is Disney’s Mulan, which opens in theaters on March 27. The film has received a PG-13 rating for sequences of violence. That means it’s the first one of Disney’s live-action remakes to receive a PG-13 rating, as well as the first live-action film from Disney since Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales to get that rating.

Yifei Liu (The Forbidden Kingdom, Once Upon a Time) was cast as Hua Mulan following a year-long global casting search. The fearless and spirited eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Mulan is the apple of her father’s eye. When the Emperor mobilizes his troops to fight the onslaught of invaders from the North, she masquerades as a man to take the place of her ailing father under the name Hua Jun, setting her on an adventure that will transform her into a legendary warrior.

Joining Yifei Liu in the film are: Donnie Yen (Star Wars: Rogue One); Jason Scott Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny); Yoson An (The Meg); and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect); Ron Yuan (Marco Polo); Tzi Ma (Arrival); Rosalind Chao (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine); Cheng Pei-Pei (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon); Nelson Lee; Chum Ehelepola; with Gong Li (Memoirs of a Geisha, Raise the Red Lantern) and Jet Li (Shaolin Temple, Lethal Weapon 4).

Mulan is directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland USA) from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Jurassic World, In the Heart of the Sea) and Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek based on the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan.”

James Bond Returns in the No Time to Die Trailer!

No Time to Die

Opening in theaters on April 10, the 25th James Bond film No Time to Die has been rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and action, some disturbing images, brief strong language and some suggestive material.

In No Time to Die, Bond (Daniel Craig) has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

No Time to Die stars Daniel CraigRami Malek, Léa Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, with Jeffrey Wright, and Ralph Fiennes as “M.” The film also stars Ana de Armas, Rory Kinnear, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, and Billy Magnussen.

The movie, from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM), and Universal Pictures International, is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation, True Detective). Daniel Craig is returning for his fifth film as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007.

Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl

And, although we haven’t seen a trailer since November of 2018, Disney’s Artemis Fowl has received a PG rating for fantasy action/peril and some rude humor. Now scheduled to open in theaters on May 29, the adaptation of the beloved book by Eoin Colfer is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Artemis Fowl follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance. Newcomer Ferdia Shaw plays the title character, with Lara McDonnell (Love, Rosie) playing Captain Holly Short, a feisty, spirited elf, who is kidnapped by Artemis for a ransom of fairy gold.

In the underground fairy world of Haven City, Academy Award-winner Dame Judi Dench (Skyfall) plays Commander Root, the leader of the reconnaissance division of the LEPrecon, the fairy police force, and Josh Gad (Beauty and the Beast) plays Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniac dwarf, who attempts to help rescue Holly.

Above ground, Nonso Anozie (Cinderella) plays the Fowl family bodyguard, named Butler, and Tamara Smart (The Worst Witch) plays Butler’s niece Juliet. Miranda Raison (Murder on the Orient Express) plays Artemis’ mother Angeline.

Other members of the cast include Josh McGuire (About Time), Hong Chau (Downsizing), Nikesh Patel (London Has Fallen), Michael Abubakar (Trust Me), Jake Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind), Rachel Denning (Doctor Who), Matt Jessup (Dread), Simone Kirby (Alice Through the Looking Glass), Sally Messham (Allied) and Adrian Scarborough (Les Misérables).
