Monster Hunter Teaser and Release Moved to December

Sony Pictures has released the Monster Hunter teaser trailer and revealed that the film’s release date has been moved up to December 2020. The film was previously pushed back from September 4, 2020 to April 23, 2021. You can watch the Monster Hunter teaser trailer below!

Written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson (Resident Evil films), the film stars Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung, and Ron Perlman.

Anderson previously talked to SYFY about the monsters you can expect in the movie. “All our monsters are 50-60 feet tall,” he said. “They’re really amazing. We’re building them in even more detail than the dinosaurs of Jurassic World.”

He added: “And they look even better, because we shot on real locations in South Africa and Namibia, which gives the animators something to really match into: real wind, real dust, real sun-flare. The monsters are the only CG thing in there.”

In the previously-released posters you can view here, Milla Jovovich is shown as Lieutenant Artemis and holding a Great Sword, the Giant Jawblade. Tony Jaa plays The Hunter and is holding the Great Hunter’s Bow.

In the film, behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her elite unit are transported through a portal from our world to a new world, they are in for the shock of their lives.

In her desperate attempt to get home, the brave lieutenant encounters a mysterious hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills have allowed him to survive in this hostile land. Faced with relentless and terrifying attacks from the monsters, the warriors team up to fight back and find a way home.

The video game adaptation was rated PG-13 for sequences of creature action and violence throughout.

The Sony Pictures release is produced by Anderson and Jeremy Bolt from Impact Pictures, and by Robert Kulzer and Martin Moszkowicz from Constantin Film. Dennis Berardi, head of VFX for the film, also acts as producer.

The Monster Hunter series consists of hunting action games that pit players against giant monsters in a beautiful natural environment. Since the first title made its debut 14 years ago in 2004, the series has attracted a dedicated fan base, and overall grown into a mega-hit, with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 50 million units.

Monster Hunter: World, the latest title in the series, enthralled game players the world over and shipped 10 million units, making it the best-selling title in Capcom history.
