The Monster Hunter Dual Blades have been revealed! The weapon from Monster Hunter World (check price at Amazon) is held by Milla Jovovich in a new photo (via Empire) from the upcoming September 4, 2020 theatrical release.
Director Paul W. S. Anderson also talked to Empire about Jovovich’s character, Artemis. “I wrote the role of Artemis for Milla as the avatar for the player, so she could be a grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter.
Jovovich added: “Yeah, she’s not based on a character from the game. Paul wrote her as the captain of a team of Army Rangers that go in to rescue their colleague.”
It was Jovovich who got to pick the Monster Hunter Dual Blades, however: “Although Milla’s character’s not specifically in the game, she chose the same armor and weapons she uses in the game, so there were aspects of her game character that got folded into the movie representation,” said Anderson.
“I experimented with different weapons during the game and was able to kill more monsters with those blades,” commented Jovovich. “I thought they’d look really beautiful in an action sequence.”
In the previously-released posters you can view here, Milla Jovovich is shown as Lieutenant Artemis and holding a Great Sword, the Giant Jawblade. Tony Jaa plays The Hunter and is holding the Great Hunter’s Bow.
In the film, behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her elite unit are transported through a portal from our world to a new world, they are in for the shock of their lives.
In her desperate attempt to get home, the brave lieutenant encounters a mysterious hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills have allowed him to survive in this hostile land. Faced with relentless and terrifying attacks from the monsters, the warriors team up to fight back and find a way home.
Tip “T.I.” Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung and Ron Perlman co-star in the video game adaptation, which is rated PG-13 for sequences of creature action and violence throughout.
The Sony Pictures release, written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson (Resident Evil films), is produced by Anderson and Jeremy Bolt from Impact Pictures, and by Robert Kulzer and Martin Moszkowicz from Constantin Film. Dennis Berardi, head of VFX for the film, also acts as producer.
