Variety is reporting that Miles Teller (Only the Brave, Whiplash) has landed the role of Goose’s son in Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions‘ upcoming Top Gun: Maverick.
Teller beat out such actors as Nicholas Hoult, Glen Powell, Dylan O’Brien and Austin Butler for the role. He will play Maverick’s new protege in the sequel to the 1986 classic. Anthony Edwards played LTJG Nick “Goose” Bradshaw in the original.
Cruise is reteaming with his Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski for the film, which will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Cruise, and Skydance’s David Ellison. Kosinski also directed Teller in Only the Brave.
Val Kilmer is expected to return as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky as well.
Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 12, 2019.
