Netflix announced today that the streaming service has ordered the Midnight Mass series under its multi-year television deal with Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures.
Following the success of The Haunting of Hill House, Netflix also ordered a second season of the horror anthology, entitled The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Netflix describes the Midnight Mass series as follows: “An isolated island community experiences miraculous events – and frightening omens – after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.”
The first season will consist of seven episodes. Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Oculus) is the creator and will direct. The executive producers are Trevor Macy (The Haunting of Hill House, Oculus) and Mike Flanagan.
It was just announced last week that The Haunting of Hill House star Victoria Pedretti will return as the lead of The Haunting of Bly Manor, which will launch on Netflix in 2020. In Bly Manor, Pedretti will play Dani, a governess who takes care of two very unusual children.
Flanagan and Macy are in post-production on Warner Bros.’ Doctor Sleep, the feature adaptation of Stephen King’s 2013 follow-up to his seminal novel The Shining, starring Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson, for a November 8, 2019 release. Flanagan directed and penned the adaptation, while Macy produced with Jon Berg. Intrepid is also in post-production on Eli, directed by Ciaran Foy and produced by Macy, which will be released on Netflix globally later this year.
