Michael Rooker in Talks to Play King Shark in The Suicide Squad

TheWrap is reporting that Michael Rooker is in talks to reteam with his Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn on The Suicide Squad. According to the site, Rooker would play the role of King Shark in the film.

The DC Comics villain King Shark was created by Karl Kesel and made a brief cameo in Superboy Vol. 3 #0 (Oct. 1994) before making his first full appearance in Superboy Vol. 3 #9 (Nov. 1994). The character also appeared on The CW’s The Flash.

King Shark appears on the Arrowverse television series The Flash with Dan Payne portraying the character in its human form, while David Hayter voices the CGI shark form.

Rooker would join returning cast members Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller). The other newcomers are Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian as the Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, and possibly John Cena in a role.

James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy films) will write and direct The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Pictures. The film has been scheduled for an August 6, 2021 release. Warner Bros. Pictures is hoping to start production this fall.

Charles Roven and Peter Safran will produce the feature. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder will serve as executive producers.

Directed by David Ayer, the first Suicide Squad also stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Joel Kinnaman, and Jared Leto. Suicide Squad cost about $175 million and grossed an impressive $746.8 million worldwide.

Michael Rooker will also star in the 2020 movies Fantasy Island and Monster Problems.

**UPDATE: Michael Rooker has seemingly shot down this report and is not joining the cast.**
