Amazon and MGM announced that MGM titles have officially joined Prime Video and Amazon Studios. It was previously announced that Amazon would acquire MGM for $8.45 billion.
The storied, nearly century-old studio — with more than 4,000 film titles, 17,000 TV episodes, 180 Academy Awards, and 100 Emmy Awards — will complement Prime Video and Amazon Studios’ work in delivering a diverse offering of entertainment choices to customers.
“MGM has a nearly century-long legacy of producing exceptional entertainment, and we share their commitment to delivering a broad slate of original films and television shows to a global audience,” said Mike Hopkins, senior vice president of Prime Video and Amazon Studios.
“We welcome MGM employees, creators, and talent to Prime Video and Amazon Studios, and we look forward to working together to create even more opportunities to deliver quality storytelling to our customers.”

Amazon previously said it would help preserve MGM’s heritage and catalog of films, and provide customers with greater access to these existing MGM titles.
“Through this acquisition, Amazon would empower MGM to continue to do what they do best: great storytelling,” said Amazon in the original announcement.
“MGM has a vast catalog with more than 4,000 films — 12 Angry Men, Basic Instinct, Creed, James Bond, Legally Blonde, Moonstruck, Poltergeist, Raging Bull, RoboCop, Rocky, Silence of the Lambs, Stargate, Thelma & Louise, Tomb Raider, The Magnificent Seven, The Pink Panther, The Thomas Crown Affair, and many other icons,” said Hopkins.
He added that MGM also has 17,000 TV shows, “including Fargo, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Vikings – that have collectively won more than 180 Academy Awards and 100 Emmys.”
