Max Riemelt Is Reteaming with Lana Wachowski for The Matrix 4

German actor Max Riemelt has announced on his social channels (see below) that he has joined the cast of Lana Wachowski’s next The Matrix movie, coming to theaters on May 21, 2021. It’s unknown who he will play, but Max Riemelt previously portrayed German safe cracker Wolfgang Bogdanow in the Wachowskis’ series Sense8.

The untitled Matrix movie will feature Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith returning to reprise their original roles. Also joining the cast are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff and Neil Patrick Harris.

Lana Wachowski — the co-creator of the record-breaking and genre-defining world of The Matrix — is set to write, direct and produce the all-new film, returning audiences to the reality-bending universe. Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film. Wachowski is producing the film together with Grant Hill. The Matrix 4 screenplay is by Wachowski, Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.

The three previous films (buy the collection) — The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003) — have earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office and were all top-10 domestic hits in their respective years of release. The Matrix Revolutions was also the first film ever to release simultaneously in every major country at the same hour around the world.
