A live-action Bambi movie is in the works at The Walt Disney Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project is the latest animated film to be adapted by the studio, following such similar animal-centric films as The Jungle Book and The Lion King, as well as Disney+’s Lady and the Tramp.
The site says that Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider) and Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) will write the screenplay for the new Bambi movie.
Depth of Field (The Farewell), the production company run by Chris and Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano, will produce the film.
In the original animated movie (which is available to watch on Disney+ here), Bambi sets off with his best friends Thumper and Flower to explore the wonders and challenges of the woods… and fulfill his destiny as prince of the forest.
Full of humor and heart, Bambi was an adaptation of the 1923 book, Bambi, a Life in the Woods, by Austrian author Felix Salten. It received three Oscar nominations for Best Song, Best Score and Best Sound.
