Little Fires Everywhere and Mrs. America Teasers from The Oscars

-

During last night’s Oscars (view the winners), FX on Hulu and Hulu aired two Mrs. America teasers and a new promo for Little Fires Everywhere.

Based on true events that forever changed the women’s rights movement, Mrs. America premieres April 15 exclusively on FX on Hulu. It marks the first series regular role in an American television program for Cate Blanchett, a two-time Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winner.

Mrs. America tells the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly, played by Cate Blanchett.

Through the eyes of the women of that era – both Schlafly and second wave feminists Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelshaus – the series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the ’70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted our political landscape.

The series also stars Rose Byrne as Gloria Steinem; Sarah Paulson as “Alice,” Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug, Uzo Aduba as Shirley Chisholm, Elizabeth Banks as Jill Ruckelshaus, Tracey Ullman as Betty Friedan, John Slattery as Fred Schlafly, and James Marsden as Phil Crane.

Mrs. America is written by Emmy Award-winning writer Dahvi Waller (Mad Men) and executive produced by two-time Academy Award nominee Stacey Sher, Waller, Coco Francini, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, and Blanchett, with Micah Schraft and James Skotchdopole serving as Co-Executive Producers.

The limited series is produced by FX Productions. Boden & Fleck, who most recently co-wrote and directed the blockbuster feature Captain Marvel, directed the first two episodes of Mrs. America.

The full trailer for the series is still available here.

Based on Celeste Ng’s 2017 bestseller, Little Fires Everywhere follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives.

The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

The cast includes Reese Witherspoon (Elena Richardson), Kerry Washington (Mia Warren), Rosemarie DeWitt (Linda McCullough), Joshua Jackson (Bill Richardson), Jade Pettyjohn (Lexie Richardson), Jordan Elsass (Trip Richardson), Gavin Lewis (Moody Richardson), Megan Stott (Izzy Richardson), and Lexi Underwood (Pearl Warren).

After longing for a child for decades and suffering losses no mother should suffer, Linda happily and wholeheartedly takes in an infant who was abandoned at a local fire station. Linda names the baby Mirabelle and loves her as her own, but when Mirabelle’s biological mother — a Chinese immigrant who’s in the country illegally — resurfaces, Linda becomes anguished and paranoid at the prospect of losing her daughter.

The series is produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street and ABC Signature Studios. Liz Tigelaar (Life Unexpected, Casual) will serve as creator, showrunner and executive producer.

Witherspoon, Washington, Lauren Levy Neustadter (Hello Sunshine), Pilar Savone (Simpson Street), and Lynn Shelton also executive produce.

Little Fires Everywhere is premiering on Hulu Wednesday, March 18, 2020. In case you missed it, you can still watch the official trailer by clicking here.
