Legion of Leia Podcast: LA Times Festival of Books Interviews Part 1

-

On this week’s Legion of Leia Podcast, I got a chance to chat with some of the authors from the LA Times Festival of Books at the Black Château booth. This is part 1 of our interviews and includes Barbara Morriss, author of A Promise in Autumn, Debra Tash, author of Last Call America: Last Call Before Darkness Falls, Tara Botel Doherty, author of Growing Up Hollywood and Laurie Finkelstein, author of Next Therapist Please.

Check out the info on the authors below, and check out Black Château here.

Barbara Morriss – “A Promise in Autumn”

While studying her family history, Barbara uncovered a mystery and used it as inspiration. “A Promise in Autumn” tells the story of Keagan Cadagan, a poor Irish Catholic girl who secures employment as a nanny for the Flannagan family, until the family suddenly disappears against the the backdrop of the Influenza Pandemic of 1918.

Debra Tash – “Last Call America: Last Call Before Darkness Falls”

Debra Tash is an acclaimed American author, journalist, and speaker who gets her inspiration from current and past events. Her book, “Last Call America, imagines a devastated America, one where life has become brutal for the citizens “who are living under Martial law after Homeland Security seizes power. Interested in talking politics in an imaginative new way? Debra provides startling insights and stimulates the imagination.

Tara Botel Doherty – “Growing Up Hollywood”

A native of Los Angeles, Tara Botel Doherty was raised by her grandmother and mother blocks away from Hollywood Boulevard. Her book is inspired by her life. Go on the adventures with two sisters in this book as they grow up among the famous landmarks. And meet the people who make this the destination where they look for fame and fortune among the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Laurie Finkelstein – “Next Therapist Please”

The book is inspired by Laurie’s real-life experiences hopping from one therapist to the next. She uses humor to tackle tough topics like anxiety, depression and OCD in a refreshing manner. She is also the author of the forthcoming AHOOT which a guide to marijuana use for older adults. She’ll also tell you how to make the perfect margarita if you ask for the recipe.

Stay tuned for part 2 of the interviews from the LA Times Festival of Books at Legion of Leia!
